Henry William "Harry"  Dieck
Henry “Harry” William Dieck, 90, of Newtown, CT died peacefully December 30th in his home in the presence of his loving family. Harry was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 19, 1927, the loving son of Katherine Rose Grady and Henry William Dieck.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Dempsey Dieck and their seven children; Jeanine (Robert) Fish, Barbara (Donald) Zrehigian, Jere (Aicha) Dieck, Thomas (Christina)Dieck, Katherine (David) Wilmoth, Peter Dieck (Jennifer Bruny) and James Dieck, their 11 grandchildren; Carly, Victoria, Sarah, Julien, Hannah, Dylan, Cole, Alexander, Isabel, Nicholas and Justina.
He was predeceased by his sisters Joan, Katherine, Dorothy Scully and Noel Develin, and his brother Bob.
He graduated from Iona Preparatory School and subsequently enlisted in the Army. He served in the 38th Infantry Regiment in Camp Carson, CO. Upon his honorable discharge he enrolled in the College of Holy Cross, where he was a Class Agent, member of the Varsity Club and the swimming team. He was a proud member of the graduating class of 1951.
Harry started his investment banking career as an institutional Municipal Bond Salesperson at B. J. Van Ingen & Co. He continued working in Municipal Bond Sales & Trading until his retirement in 1998 from Citigroup Investment Banking.
After residing and raising their children in Larchmont, NY for 39 years where he was an active member of St. Augustine Parish, he and Rita retired to Newtown, CT in 2000. As a member of the St. Rose of Lima Parrish, Harry became the head of the job networking group, a 7th grade teacher of the religious education program and was a devoted member of the Communion Liberation Group. Harry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he loved helping others in the Newtown community.
Harry’s family would like to thank the staff of Vitas. We are especially grateful to Megan Pakulski, Roxanne Fernandes, Orlando Rivera, Michael Sawyer and Jessica Milstein for their compassion in his last days.
Friends may call Thursday January 4th, 5-8pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street Newtown
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road Newtown at 10:30am Friday, January 5th.
